
Did you know that on average, a single bee makes 1/12 teaspoon of honey in its lifetime? So, for each teaspoon of honey, that’s like consuming the life work of 12 bees. Yes, grrl! Let’s talk about how their hard work benefits us. Used for nutritional, medicinal, and cosmetic purposes since ancient times, it’s one of the top multi-purposed foods.
Here’s just a few great ways to use honey.
- Mix a tablespoon of local honey with a teaspoon of minced garlic, or peppermint and lemon essential oils to soothe a sore throat.
- Eat darker honey such as buckwheat to improve blood antioxidant levels and prevent cell/tissue damage.
- Honey hair treatments moisturizes and gives hair shine. It promotes hair and scalp health and acts as a cleanser. Mix ½ cup honey and ¼ cup olive oil together, coat hair in sections, cover with a cap, and let marinate for 30 minutes. Shampoo and follow a normal hair routine.
- Blend 2 tablespoons coconut oil, 2 tablespoons of honey with 1 ripe banana, and use as a deep hair conditioner.
- Replacing honey for white sugar helps with weight loss.
- Combat seasonal allergies by consuming locally sourced honey.
- Nauseous? Mix 1 teaspoon each of grated or powdered ginger and lemon with 2-3 teaspoons of raw honey together and take for relief. You can also simmer sliced or grated ginger in water for 20 minutes, sieve, then add honey and lemon.
- A natural exfoliant and moisturizer, your skin will thank you for adding some to your bathwater. Put 2 cups of honey in your bathwater and marinate for 15 minutes or so. Then add one cup of baking soda to the last 20 minutes of your bath.
- Honey is a natural antibacterial and antiseptic. Use on minor scrapes, cuts, and burns by applying a thin layer to the area. It also helps prevent bandages from sticking to the wound.
